Lee County Sheriff’s Office offers fingerprinting, background checks and pistol permits.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office provides fingerprinting services Monday through Friday each week, 8-11am and 1-4:30pm.
For this service, the individual must have a fingerprint card and a valid form of identification such as an Alabama driver’s license, state-issued ID, or current passport. The cost of this service is $5.00, cash only. It is best to bring correct change. If for any reason a reprint is necessary, we will do it at no charge if the original prints were done by our office less than 6 months prior.
Cards are available for download from the FBI’s website and must be printed on cardstock. They are also available for purchase at office supply stores.

Local background checks for county residents are done from 8:00am until 4:30pm Monday through Friday.
The cost is $3.00 and is cash only. They are done only as a request for employment or housing and must be accompanied by a signed waiver on the requesting agency’s letterhead. The individual must also produce a valid form of identification such as an Alabama driver’s license, state-issued ID, or current passport. There will be no individual background checks given to anyone without this information. Background checks for residents of Auburn or Opelika will need to visit their city’s police department.
If you would like to run a criminal background check on yourself, we have forms that can be sent to Montgomery for that information at a cost of $25.00. This check will take 6 to 8 weeks.
The pistol permit application must be completed online. In addition to remote online application, you may also apply via kiosk in the Lee County Sheriff’s Office lobby located at 1900 Frederick Road Opelika, AL, 36801.
This application is for a general class non-restrictive concealed carry permit. It covers concealed carry of a handgun and does not require the licensee to carry a specific firearm.

The cost of a one (1) year pistol permit is $20.00 per year for anyone age 19 to 59. The cost of a one (1) year pistol permit for persons age 60 or over is $15.00 per year. A five (5) year pistol permit is $125. The cost for a lifetime permit is $300. Debit/Credit: Accepted online.
Funds received for 1 year and 5 year permits stay in Lee County for Sheriff’s Law Enforcement operations. A portion of funds received from issuing a lifetime permit are required to be sent to the State of Alabama with no local benefit.
It is the policy of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to maintain the privacy of all individuals who hold a concealed carry firearms permit issued by the Sheriff of Lee County. Records concerning information on concealed carry firearms permits are considered confidential and are not released to the public.
