We are always looking for ways to serve our community. One way is providing community classes throughout the year about various topics of safety/public interest.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office works with the Office of Professional & Continuing Education at Auburn University to teach a handgun safety course at various times throughout the year. This course is an excellent opportunity to learn about safe handgun handling and ownership. It is taught by David George and Sheriff Jay Jones. You do not need to own a firearm to attend. Information about permits and different types of firearms will be provided as part of the class. The first two sessions are Tuesday & Thursday evening in the training room at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and the third session is Saturday morning at a range (information provided during the classroom sessions)
The $109 fee for this course covers hearing protection, eye protection, and range costs. You must provide proof that you are at least 21 years of age to participate.
The Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) System is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. The R.A.D. System is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. R.A.D. is NOT a Martial Arts program.
This is a free course for women 13 and older.
S.A.F.E. stands for Self-Defense Awareness & Familiarization Exchange. This one-hour class is an introduction to the world of basic self-defense. Your defense starts with your and that starts here. Only 10% of self-defense is physical skill. The rest is risk awareness, risk reduction, risk recognition, and risk avoidance.
S.A.F.E. classes are free & open to anyone of any gender age 13 and older (a parent or guardian must be present for the duration of the class if the attendee is a minor).
