The Lee County Sheriff’s Office works with the Office of Professional & Continuing Education at Auburn University to teach a handgun safety course at various times throughout the year. This course is an excellent opportunity to learn about safe handgun handling and ownership.
These courses are taught by David George and Sheriff Jay Jones. You do not need to own a firearm to attend. Information about permits and different types of firearms will be provided as part of the class.

Fall Session I: September 29, October 1, and October 3
Fall Session II: October 27, 29, and 31
You must be 21 or older and will need to bring proof of age with you.

The first two sessions are taught at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office (1900 Frederick Rd., Opelika). Saturday’s session will be at a range, and the location will be provided during class.
This fee covers hearing protection, eye protection, and range costs.
